TWO YEARS. Two yearssss, we’ve been working on retaining walls. We’ve hit snags, changing seasons, pregnancies, and more. Recently, we ordered cap stones, a few more blocks, some dirt, and one inch clean gravel. We’ve had so much rain lately (with record flooding in some areas) and intense heat that we haven’t had a chance to do much at all with the largest of the two retaining walls. Finally the weather is perfect, the delivery has arrived, and we are ready to BE DONE with these walls.
To say building retaining walls is back-breaking and dream-crushing work would be an understatement. We don’t have all of the big pro equipment, just a few shovels, a wheelbarrow, and some determination to save money. “Do it right the first time,” is sort of our motto- not always the end result, but, you know, we try.
I am so excited to show the end result, not just for the satisfaction of a before and after, but because that means we’ll be DONE! We will fill you in on all the trials and tribulations we’ve encountered along the way and what we’ve learned from our DIY retaining wall building experience. If you have the guts and a decent amount of patience, you can save a lot of money by building your own landscaping walls!
We still have a ways to go! Stay tuned…
