When we moved into our house, all four bedrooms remained relatively untouched apart from some hand-me-down furniture and a couple of framed pictures of our dog, Murphy. After finding out we were pregnant (!) about a year later, we decided to do a total nursery room overhaul!
Our whole house was/still mostly is a terribly drab shade of tan. The house siding, the inside walls, the carpet… Even the fireplace is tan. So the first thing we wanted to do was choose a really different paint color. We settled on Cool Ashes (N520-4) by Behr. It gives the room a really peaceful, cozy feeling without being too dark. And in hindsight, I’m glad we went dark because C (who is 16 months old now) will only sleep if the room is dark, like cave dark. And when you’re a tired newborn parent, you’d do just about anything to get your baby to sleep. I would have spray painted the walls black if it had helped us all get some rest. Glad we didn’t have to go there.
We replaced the wire shelf in the closet with a Closetmaid system to give us some extra storage and hanging space. And after a long day of putting together furniture (sometimes pregnant ladies insist that things need to be done now), we had a dresser, a side table, and a crib!
Most of my pregnancy was spent on the hunt for furniture on clearance. We found the glider on clearance at Babies ‘R Us before they went of business and reupholstered a cheap footrest.
C’s nursery is so dreamy! It’s hard not to fall asleep while rocking him in the glider!
