Bifold doors have their place, but in my opinion, the less you have to open them the better. Naturally, having a bifold pantry door wasn’t working out for us. Especially with small kiddos with pinchable fingers who are always searching for their next snack. So today we’re going to turn our bifold door into double doors!
You’ll need…
- Screwdriver
- Wood filler
- Non-mortise hinges (you can also use basic door hinges to match the other side but they will need to be recessed with a router or multi tool!)
- Two door pulls
- Two magnetic latches
Step 1: Remove bifold door from jamb side
Step 2: Remove center, bifold hinges so you have two identical door halves
Step 3: Attach non-mortise hinges (or basic door hinges) to the jamb side of the non-hinged door
Step 4: If using basic door hinges, recess area in jamb for hinges (level and mirrored from the other side with the original hinges)
Step 5: Patch old holes and paint
Step 6: Hang both doors from hinges
Step 7: Attach door pulls and magnetic latches on the top of the door jamb
