Choosing a paint color for a room is one of the hardest parts of redecorating. We picked up dozens of teal paint swatches for the new nursery to compare to my nursery “mood board”. Comparing a color online vs. on a chip vs. on the wall and then vs. the whole painted wall in various lighting can be confusing; the same color can seem like 14 different shades.
We finally narrowed it down to four different colors from Behr. On the top left is Australian Jade and, in the same family, Moonglass on the bottom right. Then Copper Patina on the top right and a lighter version of it, Jade Tinge, on the bottom left.
You can see what I mean about the “14 different shades” thing in the picture below. The swatches on the wall are Copper Patina on the left and Australian Jade on the right. Totally different, right??
Moonglass, specifically, seemed super icy blue on the wall and Jade Tinge was too “old hospital wall”, if you know what I mean. Australian Jade was just a tad too dark, so we settled on Copper Patina! I will mention… We used Behr paint in C’s nursery because we primarily shop at Home Depot. So we decided to use Behr paint again. The only thing we’ve noticed about their paint is that the formula is thick and tacky, making it sort of difficult to work with. However, its opaqueness leaves a nice finish and you could potentially get away with one coat (though, we did two). It’s budget-friendly, but you definitely have to consider your paint preferences!
Before we could paint, we had to prime over the color swatches we had painted on three of the walls. We also picked up a new cold air return vent cover. The walls were spray painted by the sellers of our house and we think they just left all of the vents up because they are all painted over and basically glued to the walls. So we tore off the vent and, consequently, the dry wall paper around it. We patched the tears with shelac-based primer/sealer spray paint and then mudded over it.
Just a quick sanding with our extension pole and sander (which we love!), we were ready to paint!
So without any further ado, and in case you just want to see the paint color without all of my chatter… here are the walls before and after!
I still feel like the photos don’t do the color justice… it really is a richer color in person. I’m hoping once we get the furniture arranged and the room all decorated, we can find the perfect lighting to capture the color just right!
Most importantly the color compliments my beloved crib sheets, haha!
You don’t even know how excited I am to dig into decorating this space! I also can’t wait to pull out C’s old baby clothes and organize all of those itty bitty things into baby bro’s new dresser! *insert squeals here*
At this point I usually tell you what’s next project-wise, but I’m not sure how soon we’ll be able to work on the basement patio door. We’re going to take a little socially distant family getaway here pretty soon before the baby comes! As always, thanks for reading! See you next time!
