If you could climb inside my brain, you would hear a constant buzzing of DIY house project ideas that I want to tackle. In fact, just yesterday we were driving home from church and I said, out of the blue, “I think I’m going to tear up all of the carpet tomorrow.” And Tyler reminded me, “Let’s finish unpacking boxes first.” He is wise like that.
It’s true, DIY-ers are notorious for attempting projects that most people wouldn’t bother with, like building a tripod lamp for their baby’s nursery (guilty). It makes normal people wonder why anyone would build a lamp instead of just buying a perfectly good one from Target. But put on your DIY hats for just a minute, guys, and consider these five DIY house projects that are not only easy, but will make a huge difference in your home!
1) Make your stained grout look brand new.
Transform your dingy looking grout in a flash with grout stain. You will be amazed by how fresh your tile will look when you’re done. See how I restored our bathroom grout!
2) Replace your old basement windows.
Hear me out… I know it seems daunting. If your home still has those old single pane, tilt in windows, do yourself a favor and replace them! Your basement will be so much warmer in the winter and much more secure. Find yourself a casement window that will fit the rough opening and fill in the gaps with PVC and insulation. Level it, secure it in place, seal it and boom- fresh, energy efficient windows! See how we did it!
3) Decorate that awkward empty wall with a picture frame ledge.
I cannot express to you how easy and cheap this picture frame ledge is to build. They are so versatile and perfect for filling in those long walls that you have no idea what to do with. We used ours above our couch in our old house. Learn how to build your own for $20!
4) Elevate the space above your toilet.
One trip to Home Depot and you’ll be ready to hang these shelves on your wall! The pipes add an interesting balance to softer decor like vases, baskets, and plants. Check out how we built these industrial pipe shelves with a full price breakdown!
5) Maximize your storage space with a closet organizer.
You know the closet that is just a bar for hanging things with a pile of random junk at the bottom? Doesn’t everyone have one of those? What are you waiting for? Pick up a closet organizer! Tyler and I comment nearly everyday on how much of a game changer closet organizers are. Married things, right?? They are super easy to install and worth the money in every way! (Bonus points if you add a fresh coat of paint to the inside of your closet. It does wonders!!!) Check out the difference this organizer made in the coat closet at our old house!
Let me know if you try any of these DIY ideas in your own home. I promise you won’t regret any these projects! As always, thanks for being here!
